Need Pics of Dressed Engines

Post by fiasco »

I want to do a some dressing up of my new engine while it's still out and need to decide what to do. Reyy has offered to sandblast parts before I paint them, but I don't know yet what I want to paint. So I need a little help.

First - I'd love to see some pics of engines that have been dressed up a bit. I'm not talking "Pimp My Ride" or anything - just looking for examples of where you've used touches of color to make it look nice.

Second - I need advice on how to paint different parts - what to use, etc. That is, can I paint the exhaust manifold, and if so, what kind of paint do I use - that sort of thing. I hate to raise the glossy vs. krinkle debate, but what the heck - have at it.

Thanks all,

Spiderrey, is that Ford Grey engine enamel on the block? That's what I'm thinking of going with.

This shot is pretty much the way my engine is now:

You might want to page back through some other photos in this photobucket file to see some other color accents that I experimented with, but later chose to tone it down.

Alvon,

Did you paint the cam boxes or spend about a thousand hours polishing them?

I went with black for the block:

Having the exhaust manifold ceramic coated was probably the single best thing I did to clean up the engine:

They were bead blasted (compliments to John Logan), and left bare.

I used VHT hi-temp paint on the exhaust manifold and heatshield. The cam covers,AFM,and plenum are polished.

Does anyone paint the cam covers on these engines - or does that end up looking goofy?

We all joke w/ Mike B. about the wrinkle paint, but that is the way he and others have done the cam covers. It looks good on there.

Powder coating the cam covers, air cleaner, timing belt cover, etc. is an option as well.

i used ford engine grey, and then i cleared it to give it a shine with duplicolor engine paint. my valve covers are polished and the cam towers were bead blasted and hit with clear to keep them clean. it gave them a pewter look. my headers were also ceramic coated and polished.

this is some bling for an x that im toying with in the garage.
