What Size Bolts?
I'm putting rear seat belts in ('76), and the threaded inserts are already there behind the rear seat (yea!). Does anyone happen to know, or have an educated guess as to what size and thread pitch those inserts are?
I made a guess at the hardware store and was wrong - I could just go buy a whole bunch of different size bolts, but figured I'd ask and hope someone knows.
Trying to get these belts in so my sons can come with me on the SuperTrot tomorrow morning!
Thanks,

Re: What Size Bolts?
Not sure sorry, my suggestion would be to go to an Ace Hardware (if they have them there) and take your car. They have a very good assortment of different sizes and pitches. I am sure they will let you try different sizes in the holes.
1978 Spyder 1800 make that 2L! Finally making real progress!

Re: What Size Bolts?
Turns out - with a little cleanup - I was able to use the bolts that came out of the '69 Toyota Corona that I took the seat belts out of. They must be M11, cause Ace only had M10 (too small) and M12 (too big). Couldn't tell you what the thread pitch is though.

I wish - got the seat belts off a junker at Pick-a-Part in Monrovia. It looked like it was a fun little car at one time.

Re: What Size Bolts?
as i recall, they are a 1.5 pitch, but grab a front belt bolt just in case.
and an 11m 1.5 is near identical and should swap for a 7/16" x 20tpi

I was under the impression that all seat belt hardware; N. America, Europe, Asia, etc. is standardized at 7/16" x 20, Grade 5. That's what fits my '73 Spider.

7/16" = .4375" = 11.11 mm Yes, close to 11 mm.
20 tpi = 1/20" between threads = .05" = 1.27mm Closer to 1.25mm pitch than 1.5mm. 1.5mm pitch is about 17 tpi.
Sorry, I couldn't find one to measure. I took the rear seat belts out a couple years ago, but I don't recall what I did with them.

Re: What Size Bolts?
i gotta admit that i did not know this, and ASSUMED they were metric bolts, making Alvon's calculations the same as what i derived.baltobernie wrote:I was under the impression that all seat belt hardware; N. that explains it, Bernie. 7/16" x 20 tpi is whatcha want for this project.

One way or another, this forum always gets to the heart of it.
Now I can return the $20 worth of various sized metric bolts I bought at Ace Hardware.

Re: What Size Bolts?
throw some krinkle paint on them first to make them festive........
Re: What Size Bolts?
I have never heard bolts described as "festive". I guess I'll start drilling holes in my extras so I can hang them on the Christmas tree next year
