Spider #000001

Post by pope »

Though you guys would like to know what the very first spider looked like. This is really the only 1966, and was used in the Paris Auto show. Notice how low the rear sits.

Thats my mom taking the car to the side of our house by the moat to give the car a wash. You remember the pic of her washing the car.

Yes. Calssic lines, gorgeous front end, sleek and desireable.
Very nice car also.

Technically you are wrong. According to Wikipedia (I know this info has no merit but it is good for a laugh, just seach my name) this is not the first spider.
Spyder (or Spider)
Similar to a roadster but originally with less weather protection. The term originated from a small two-seat horse cart with a folding sunshade made of four bows.[citation needed] With its black cloth top and exposed sides for air circulation, the top resembled a spider. Nowadays it simply means a convertible sports car.

It is still the mold of the best Spiders made which was then broken in '74 and things went down hill, (82 owners will start to chime in here) but it is not the first spider.

Oh boy!
Lets try again! I assumed that since we are on the Fiat Spider site it was understood. This is the very first Fiat 124 Spider, with a vin code of 0001 in 1966.

Your probably thinking of production models, this was preproduction. 66 and 67 had a torque tube down the center of the car that the drive shaft spun in. In 68 they went to drive shaft with u-joints and this allowed the rear end to be raised up.

Rey, you know Fiat...they dont do everything at the beginning of the year. They phase things in when they feel like it. But the switch over to driveshafts and ujoints was in 1968. Sorry I cant give you the exact date for it though.

1 always heard the change was between 68-69. id like to see a pic of a 68 with a drive shaft. by the way , whats the advantage or disadvantage to having a torque tube or drive shaft. and why is the torque tube car so low.
