Radio Statics When Motor is Running
Re: Radio Statics When Motor is Running
I am sure there is nothing wrong with the radio. Is it static or whine? Whine gets louder and faster the faster you go is spark plug and wires, static is grounding and/or bad antenna.

I guess it's whine as I hear the motor rev. whats the prognosis ? some sort of new wires that are radio proof ?

There use to be a small modual that you wired into the power cord, but resister plugs and wires are the best bet. Go to Crutchfield.com and see what they have as a solution to that also because things change fast in this market.

Crutch is a great place to inquire. give them a tele call. they have some fairly amazing products that are not easy to find on the website, and are not in their catalogues.
also, find a different grounding location for the radio and any amplifiers you may be using. Try running a test wire from the negative battery terminal directly to the radio and amp.
i went thru this last year with my satellite radio, and only with the satellite radio portion of my system. regular radio was fine, as was CD and iPOD. eventually the only thing that solved my issue was direct wiring of the satellite output to the radio input. this required a special adapter plug i found at Crutchfield.

Re: Radio Statics When Motor is Running
I tried all these things and then......Ta Da. My years of Electronics training, I should have trusted my judgment from the start. Noise is amplified from the power supply to the poweramp or it is induced in the speaker wires. Simple test, take the alternator belt off and start the engine for 10 seconds....noise gone = alternator; noise still there ignition induced. For the alternator too simple, go to Radio Shack and get a simple 1.0uf Metalized Film Capacitor (250WVDC rated means peak voltage spike it can handle with out shorting) for about $1.59. The part number is 272-1055. Now put on some terminals and insulation, connect one side to the alternator output, the other to a ground stud (any bolt) on the alternator or vehicle and Ta Daaaa! no more noise.
