Re: Spider at Barret-Jackson
Nice hub caps/wheel covers. Shouldn't the wheel wells be black? My pet peve is when people repaint and either don't mask or dont remove necessary parts. Cant tell how many spiders I've seen with the cowel vents the same color as the car.
Re: Spider at Barret-Jackson
Funny you mentioned the body colored cowl panel vents. The two Spiders I have bought have both had cheap re-paints with painted vents and overspray. I suppose I will take them off and paint them black myself (when the time comes for paint and body work). I removed the tailights from the parts car I just bought, and the underside of the lights were painted also. That kills my ebay resale value
Re: Spider at Barret-Jackson
Look at the gap in the wheel wells to the tires on the Barrett Spider. Car does look really good though.

Seems well sold to me.It is a nice car but it seems like a lot of money.Says the owner is from Portland,Or. and I was wondering if anyone here knows the car? It was nice to see something other than a Jolly on the block.

Re: Spider at Barret-Jackson
I would like to see the price of these Spiders escalate, I am sure that car was really looked over and the price is fair. Usually the wheel wells are undercoated, so they appear black. I took off the undercoating and there was black paint under there from factory. I think the body paint color appearing in the wheel wells is influenced by the Autorama Hotrods who paint their wheel wells the body color. But those are usually show cars that are not driven more than on to the trailer and back off. I kinda like it.
Re: Spider at Barret-Jackson
I like how they say the top and interior interior are original, after that many years I do not know if that is a plus. Oh yes and it is listed with a 4 liter, hum.

and a 4 speed, I wonder if a gear is out
1978 Spyder 1800 make that 2L! Finally making real progress!
Re: Spider at Barret-Jackson
hmmm... recently restored to original Fiat specifications?
with a four litre engine? how does it keep the front bumper off the ground? and a four speed manual transmission? which Fiat spec is that?
just goes to show that even Barret-Jackson doesn't know squat about Fiats. And we are to base any buy/sell decision based on this ?

Re: Spider at Barret-Jackson
Doris Days 1976 Mercedes 450SEL only went for $8500. Nice to see a Spider overtake a famous Benz.
Re: Spider at Barret-Jackson
antique car pricing is all about nostalgia. the majority of doris day's fan base are either dead, in nursing homes or too decrepit to be concerned about owning her vehicles. i know who she is, but her movies were late night fare on the Television when I was a kid. i would not equate any value to owning one of her vehicles.
might be the price would have been higher had it not been linked to a now little known former star. ask anyone under thirty who Doris Day was, and no one will have a good answer.
but, yeah. it is good to see the prices of Spiders rise.

Hard to tell from photos, but if the condition is as nice as described, I would call this car well bought. Even if someone gave you a Spider, you would be hard pressed to completely restore it for less than $9k.

hey, i ain't got nuttin' better to do. it is dead quiet here at the office. allow me the expatiation
Re: Spider at Barret-Jackson
that Doris Day MB was a bargain at that price. Most of the bidders are from her era anyway, but it shows a general level of disdain for non-muscle cars. I'm still shocked that Spider brought 9k. With an original interior (ready to disintergrate when used daily, I'm sure), I wouldn't call that a full restoration. I would've like to see under the hood. Maybe there is a spare 2L in the trunk to explain the 4L motor
