First Problem since I have owned the Spider

Post by GOPAPA »

I just went out to see what the Spider would look like in the snow with a picture of Its Red up against a white back ground .

I guess it didn't want to leave the garage because I had trouble getting it to shift into Reverse.. Never ever done that before and only can figure that it's the colder weather its been in.. Cant be frozen or ice built up around linkage as it's been in the garage since the beginning of the snow we have had .

I put it into reverse and backed up ,then drove to the right forward to get it over some so to back it out of the garage where there was pile of snow .. It took me minutes to get it to reverse again .. Once more it gave me the same problem so I parked it ..

Anyone had this problem after letting it sit for a month and then having the linkage foul up? LD

Just how cold is your garage? I wouldn't think it would be that cold... I went for months not realizing that you are supposed to push the shifter down to get it into reverse, it just kinda decided to work for a while (having to push it down). Now it's back to not having to push it down..?.. anyway that's all I would know...

You might be right ,,I thought I was pushing it down enough but may be not .. LD

I might of not been pushing down on it hard enough ,,because of the problem with the shifting knob I bought and installed a few months ago..I knew not to pull up on it or it would come off and maybe I was to gentle to when I pushed down .. I seem to be just the opposite and use to much force most of the time ,,I did go out and try it with the motor not running and sure enough it did go into reverse .. Egg on face is what I think now ..

But,, what do you all recomend to glue this metal insert that goes to the shifting knob that never was glued to well in the first place .. I have hot glue ,silicone , elmers glue,,and pitch and tar if need be ,,but wanted to ask you alls because I KNOW that it's happened to some of you before .. LOL LD

Where does that metal piece go, does it insert into the bottom of the knob?
My favorite is always 2-part epoxy!

Yes ,,the metal part glues into the shifter knob .. It also has threads to screw onto the shifter shifter..

and you have to be careful when screwing it on so it does not break the glue loose .. I might of done that also ..LD

I agree with Pope. If you don't have two part epoxy, I'd go with the hot glue.

that's a nice presentation, on a plate. With a little garnish it could be the main course

The insert in my shift knob is loose too. I pull the knob off the shifter every time I go in reverse since on the early models, you have to pull up instead of push down. Just haven't gotten around to glueing it back on yet.

How about some tomatoes Mark ,,the color of many of our beloved fiats ( mine is red too if you havn't noticed ,,) Garnish is a waste as it's just for looks ...this should juice up the menu some if you do decide to eat this plate of car parts and food that you see before you.. LOl LD
