Good morning, all had a good weekend I trust. Question... Looking at adding a set of higher compression pistons,8.9:1, to the 1800 head I want to put on my 80 FI spider. Snooping around some of the vendors I have noticed a bit of a price difference,Any ideas, quality wise, as to the up to $100 difference.Excuse the ignorance but the pistons shown seem to look like the stock pistons, are they a bit longer? What gives the added compression? I can see the dome on the higher comp. pistons, makes sence there. Price is a bit of an issue as I have to do the Can/ US $ exchange thing.
Thanks
Chris

Re: higher compression pistons
price difference is probably due to the age of the stock. Since the dollar tanked this past year any parts produced during that time cost ALOT more. The compression difference with flat top pistons is due to the depth of the valve relief. Early 1800s had higher compression due to small valve reliefs, but be aware that those are interference motors and will suffer severe damage if the t-belt breaks or the cam timing is off.
Almost all of the pistons built the last couple of years are high compression domed pistons.
