Smog Equipment Removal

Post by BigBird68 »

This has probably been covered before and if so please direct me where I can find the info. I have a 1980 FI Spider that I'd like to improve some of the HP. I live in an area of Illinois that has no State requirement for emissions testing. What do I need to disconnect and plug or remove in order to clear all the smog equipment.

FI cars didn't have much in the way of emission equipment that affects performance. Removing the catalyst is the one improvement you can make. Advance the timing to 10btdc, make sure the vacuum advance works. Consider adjusting the valves too

Mike,

Do you know of a Fiat club close to the St Louis Area? Chicago is about 4 hours away from me.

BB--

I do not personally know anyone in your immediate area, but i would not let that stop you from contacting the Chicago crew. They have l-l-o-ong arms, and reach out quite a distance. don't underestimate that crew's desire to drive distances!!

also, we celebrated FIAT FREAK OUT 2005 at the Lake of the Ozarks; so with some openmindedness, i am certain FLU members are all around you. Stop by http://www.flu.org and go to the MESSAGE BOARD; participation in the chat forum is not restricted to just members. Give a shout there and see who's willing to stop by your place.

Then again, the Indianapolis gang is "in your area" too. how often do you head in that direction? Look up Racy Dave in this forum for more info on their activities.

send me a PM with your zip code and i will look up some FLU members. I'll also want your email address so they can contact you.

WE are not very active in Indy, thats why I visit my neighbors. Roman Chariots is a FLU group covering OK/AR/MO/KS. They probably do some events close to you, and could give a good excuse to drive some. I have also seen some folks who post on Mira http://www.mirafiori.com/ that are from your area. We often vacation in MI, so we visit our buds there. Next spring we are visiting our new friends in S/ IN and KY. I may also organize a weekend at Turkey Run state park next fall...

right you are Dave, on the driving aspect. After all, it is a car club. I am the co-founder of the WMFLU chapter, and my nearest fellow member is a two hour drive away from me.
