This weekend I helped a fellow fiat friend replace his Dizzy vac advance module, after it was done I asked if there was anything else wrong or that needed attention. "The brakes pull to the left" Removed the wheel and yellow caliper paint all over the caliper, even on the sliding surfaces. Removed the paint from the sliding surfaces and now it goes straight.

The paint was from a previous owner and seamed pretty tough. The first claiper we wire brushed (brass) the paint off, the second one we tried acetone, had to let is soak on there for a while and it still did not fully remove the paint. Not sure what brand it was, but more trouble than its worth.

umm, just a guess here, but the paint that wouldn't come off easily.... yeah. that wasn't dupli-color caliper paint. trust me.

UPDATE TO THE FAILED CALIPER PAINT

Post by mbouse »

Sherwinn Williams, the parent company for DupliColor sent me a company check to reimburse me for the caliper paint i was unhappy with.

So, in my mind, they did the right thing.

I fairly, accurately, and politely answered their stamped, self-addressed questioneer.

I tried some awhile back & it still looks ok, but no matter how good I cleaned the parts it wanted to fisheye. Finally I warmed the can in hot water, then hit the parts with the heat gun right after painting them. The stuff finally dried smooth. It's holding up fine so far, but I only use rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle to clean it.
