New chrome bumpers!

Post by SpiderHead »

Spider-point.

Its like International Auto parts for Europe. They are now offering for the first time I have ever seen...

Brand new fiat chrome strip bumpers! Not the heavy tubes.... In chrome for 399 euro!

I think that is around 480 dollars.

Considering a used set will cost around 800.00 and then you will probably have to get them chromed!

What a deal!

I'm well sorted for bumpers, but this was too good to not pass on!

and 499. euro for stainless, which is $638 US

I have heard this a few time and dont know it for a fact, but I've heard that the chrome on Spider-Point bumpers come off in the first rain. I think the euro guys might have a better handle on that claim than us.

I havn't heard anything good about the SpiderPoint chrome bumpers yet - probably that's a new series, but everytime I read that someone has bought a set, I read about problems w/ chrome quality (falling off plus rust after latest one year).

I don't really know if these are the same ones that you have reports on. the website said that they weren't available until this month... so perhaps not.

If you were in the market for some early bumpers, it would at least be worth looking at :P

My only experience with Spider-point was I bought a new windshield for my '76 about 6 years ago. When it arrived, it was cracked. I took some digital photo's and emailed them. They sent me out a new one right away, and they handled the claim against UPS.

They are the only source I know of for replacement windscreens, I was quite happy with the windscreen.

It sure would be great if they really become a solid source for early model bumpers!

The major glass companies all carry the windshield new and pretty cheaply, I just called a little over a month ago and it was just over $100. take with and $210 installed

That's good to know Pope. I tried finding one a few years ago and couldn't.

I think those are the ones that are made in Vietnam and are stainless steel. They originally were over $1000 for the last year and can still be found on ebay for that much. I guess after the initial push, that prices have become more reasonable.

Except that IAPs parts usually aren't dangerously poor in construction. A long, long time ago I bought (via Caribou, who distributed Spider Points stuff back then) a bunch of their stuff. The chrome is, in fact, garbage, at least all of I received. A luggage rack rusted at the first rain (not kidding at all), rocker chrome rusted as well. The interior parts lasted about one season of light use. The dashboard didn't fit, the center console didn't fit, the radio console didn't fit.

In fact *nothing* I received from Spider Point was any good, and I've never bought from them again. Maybe it has gotten better in the last decade but I'd stay away.

Might want to ask Stephan , my german isn't half that good as his , but i remembered reading on the german spider forum that the quality of the spider point bumpers is very poor , even a guy there who wanted to trade out his new spider point bumpers for old stock ones

Well, yes, see my previous post.
The current version (available for some years) of reproduction chrome bumpers available at SpiderPoint Del Priore etc. have a very bad reputation - chrome falling off and rust after latest one year. But probably this is a new series.

Re the Group Harrington stainless steel version I hear that some people love them and some people would never buy them again - so they seem to have quite some variance in their quality. They are available at EBay in Europe for 450€ at that point of time - which is quite cheap - but looking at the experiences w/ their quality I'd like to recommend a written refund statement before you buy if you consider getting them.

Actually I cannot understand these quality problems with the repros - why don't they just check what the original was? Fiat is not known to produce top quality but the original bumpers do outperform the new repros even after ~30 years....ImageImage

I've had good experience with SpiderPoint, they have shown good knowledge of the different year variations and the quality of the items provided has been to my satisfaction, plus they have a lot of parts available. I contrast this with one of the US vendors who managed to supply incomplete order, with some parts I didn't actually order (despite me specifying the part numbers from his website) and supplying second-hand parts without declaring them as such. But others on this forum have had good experience with that particular vendor so I guess it's the luck of the draw...

I've also ordered from Spider Point and was satifsfied with the parts. I was also amazed at how quickly the parts came in.
