Any SoCalers familiar with this Spider?

Post by fiasco »

Do any of the SoCal crowd know anything about this Spider for sale in Redondo Beach?

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/cto/908562763.html

It's been listed on CraigsList for months, and seems like if it were as good as the ad says, at that price, someone would have scooped it up by now. If anyone's seen it let me know.

Thanks!

I emailed the guy today with some basic questions about the car - things like "does it have any rust?", "has it had any engine upgrades?", "what's the condition of the top?".

He emailed me back a short note that just said, "Come take a look at it."

I emailed him back again and said that it's a bit of a hike for me to get out to Redondo Beach (about an hour drive) and would appreciate getting some additional information so I can decide whether or not to make the drive out.

He emailed me back this evening and said that the time it would take him to answer the questions is worth more than he is asking for the car ($3000) and that he can't stand people like me.

First of all, his time must be really valuable if the 10 minutes it would take to answer my questions is worth $3000. Secondly, I am not surprised that he has been trying to sell this car for months on end if he can't stand people that want to know something about the car he is selling. Lastly, I would suggest avoiding this guy, partly because I think he's a bit of a jerk, but also because he clearly has something to hide. Anyone who won't provide basic information about a car he is trying to sell either isn't really trying to sell it, or he's trying to find a sucker who won't ask the right questions and who will buy his junker without knowing what they're getting.

personally, i dont think its worth 3 grand. to many missing parts, and even if they are in the box. are they any good? it really kills it for me personally, when you open the hood, trunk or door, and the cars a diff color. for me that car would have to have a completely rebuilt drivetrain to be close to pulling that much money.
i must confess though, that i bought my car with a different color in the engine bay and trunk. but it was a complete all original car,[ except for the paint,] from the original owener 70 model for $700.00. couldnt pass it up. just my 2 cents.

I don't know, that price looks reasonable to me, assuming you talk him down a few hundred more.

I agree with the multi color trunk - why? The rest of the paint looks decent. And the blue carpet really sets it off!

The guy does sound like a jerk though.

He's been trying to unload that car for at least 6 months, started at $5k. I think he's really hoping to find someone who has no idea what it is. He hates people like you, i.e. educated buyers who don't want to get screwed.
