I am going to need a shifter boot for my 5 speed conversion. A new boot is not a problem but how is it secured to the consul/lever ? Is there some sort of clamp ring or what . Any help appreciated.

Are you talking about the outer shift lever boot? It is clamped onto the shifter console with an aluminum ring. I think you can still get them from Vick's.

or, are you talking about the inner rubber boot? it too is available from that vendor. if i would EVER get my copy of the new catalogue i could quote you the current pricing.
it is assembled to the shifter lever without fasteners. is it possible that you are missing the stamped steel plate that is supposed to cover this opening? that plate secures the rubber boot in place very nicely. always a good idea to keep the rubber boot in good condition, because it helps keep out dirt, noise and heat.
the following is a shameless plug for my product. anyone taking offense, should stop reading now...
i have a few of these rubber boots that i sell along with a purchase of a MICHIGAN SHORTER SHIFTER. i sell my boots at cost, but only with a sale of a shifter.

Catalogs from IAP & Vick Auto are available online in PDF format.

Mike, are you referring to the printed catalog?

yup. they both have a new one in print, and distribution. i have not seen my copy of the new Vick catalogue. i always use them as gift suggestions for Christmas and my birthday. makes a great way for one of the daughters to get dad something he can actually use (and wants).

What I have is just the stick poking out of the consul. So I guess I need the plate and an inner boot? and the outer boot and retaining ring. Do I have this right ?
Any idea who might sell this stuff ?

If you're looking for new, Spider Point may be the biggest distributor and most likely has what you need:
http://www.spider-point.com/
These parts also come up regularly on Ebay. Plus I'm sure there are members with parts that are for sale. They'll probably see it on this subject, but if you don't get a response, you could try posting on "Parts Wanted".
Are you familiar with the usual vendors for our cars?
