Great Smokey Mountains

Post by dirkdantuma »

Just got back from a trip to the Smokey Mountains National Park. I've never been in the area and WOW what spectacular hiking and drives. Since it is the most visited National Park in the system and it was primo fall weekend, I saw a lot of both new and old sports convertibles winding up some mountain roads but not a one Fiat spider. Any Fiat Spiderists live down in the Tennessee area of the Smokeys and did you take advantage of last Sunday, yesterday's absolutely stunning day for a drive? I guess it was almost as nice in Minnesota but since my Fiat is not running so I didn't miss a rare fall drive.

I'm on the NC side of the Blue Ridge mountains and our fall Moonshine Rally will be this Saturday. It promises to be a beautiful day for a drive through the parkway with colors at their peak.

When I lived in Maryland I did the Smokys a few times on my journey to Gatlinburg, the last in my 79 Transam with the roof off. Never have I enjoyed a drive so much. Simply beautiful !! I envy you all doin it in a Spider. Equally spectacular in winter.
Nothing to match it here in Ozzyland.

I live about a hour from the west entrance to the Park(Bryson City),and about 45 minutes from'Tail of the Dragon'.I have the same scenery and weather and took full advantage of last weekend.Didnt understand if you drove the Spider or not,but if anyone is driving that area email me and we can have a Fiat convoy. There are no Fiats in my area and would love to meet up and run with some.
