Need To Remove Head

Post by Bluespider »

Hi All, number 4 spark plug threads are shot and I'm getting a lot of blow-by. Whats the best method to fix this? Heli-coil? I can pull the head with the engine in, correct? I'm assuming pull the head and valve job while the head is off? Any recomendations for machine shops in Colorado and ways to make the job more successful? Thanks

Yes, Heli-coil is the correct approach to fixing damaged plug threads. You can do it with the engine in place, but you would have to find a shop willing to do that. The more common approach is to pull the head and take it to a shop, and a valve job would be a good idea at that point. I've also heard that thread repair using the Time-Sert sytem is a better solution, but I don't have any direct experience whether it's better than Heli-coil repairs.

Sorry, I can't help you with repair shops in Colorado...
