When looking at parts some brands show compatibility till 1978 and some brands show compatibility all the way through 82. Are the ignition control modules the same all throughout ? I know its a gm style 4pin ICM. just wanted to clarify if anyone knows if there are differences between years. Mine works fine i just wanted to have a spare in hand.
Standard Ignition Motor Products LX301 shows compatibility till 78
ACDelco Professional D1906 shows compatibility all the years though ~83
Delphi DS10071 Ignition Control Module is another one i was looking at.

Re: Ignition control Module question for a 1981 124
They didn't start using electronic ignition until 79. And it is a 4-pin GM part. If they show a module before 79, it's bogus.
1979 Fiat Spider (since new)
2005 Lincoln LS (the wife's car)
2003 Chevrolet Cavalier (daily driver)
1999 Honda Shadow VLX 600
1972 Grumman Traveller 5895L (long gone).

Thankyou for the response. So they should just work fine all throughout then ? There is no special specs other than the 4pin gm style ? The ICM is just a signal amplifier correct ?bobplyler wrote:They didn't start using electronic ignition until 79. And it is a 4-pin GM part. If they show a module before 79, it's bogus.
