I'm not sure i'm posting this in the right place, but it seems like a cosmetic issue...
My spider is very badly in need of a new top. I’ve seen a few places online to buy them. On the one hand I want to spend the least amount of money that I can get away with, but I also recognize that sometimes you get what you pay for (and that could be a real headache). Anyone have advice as far as a good company to buy from – good/bad experiences? (I’m leaning toward getting a canvas top)
* I thought I should include that I have a 1978 spider 1800
Good Sources for New Top?
Re: Good Sources for New Top?
I prefer the canvas tops over the vinyl. I've had good luck with world upholstery. Recently a forum member posted that the top they got from World seemed too tight after installation

Re: Good Sources for New Top?
I've had a vinyl IAP top on my car for over 12 years. Of course, it doesn't get much action since I leave the top down most of the time, but it's held up pretty well.

Re: Good Sources for New Top?
I just got a new top from IAP, its canvas. Its the best quality of the ones they sell, so far its been very durable, fit nicely, and was fairly easy to install. No leaks that I've seen yet either.

Re: Good Sources for New Top?
My top had been replaced by the prior owner about 15 years ago. Not sure where he got it, but it's canvas and looks like new. I agree with Mark in preferring the canvas tops. They generally look better and last longer than the vinyl ones.

Aren't the canvas tops IAP sells a Robbins top? That will be my next choice when mine's completely shot and I can talk my husband into it.

Re: Good Sources for New Top?
Time will tell how long it lasts, but I'm pinching pennies on my '72, so I bought the cheapest vinyl top I could find. I got it from Diamondmall on Ebay for $190 shipped. It fit well, looks good and so far I'm glad I bought it.

Re: Good Sources for New Top?
I just got and installed one myself from the same ebay vendor at about the same price for my 72', but 76 top frame which seems identical as far as I can tell with the top. I could of saved $10 I think from the same vendor if I had browsed the listings a little further before I bought it... oops. I asked for beige which I got, but it seems a little lighter color than I had expected, but I think it looks better then I was ever expecting too. It is canvas, seems tough and very well made.htchevyii wrote:Time will tell how long it lasts, but I'm pinching pennies on my '72, so I bought the cheapest vinyl top I could find.
