Getting car ready for the summer yesterday and when the overheat fan came on, it was making a huge ruckus.

Question to the crowd is, can this be repaired (e,g, new bearing) or does the whole assembly need to be replaced?
Thanks in advance

Re: Overheat fan Howling
It sounds to me like the fan blades are hitting either the shroud or the radiator. Bearing noises are usually a rumbling sound. With the engine off, try spinning the fan blades by hand, including seeing if the blades move towards the radiator or away from it (they shouldn't). What do you feel or hear?

Good call Bryan! Blades nicking the shroud. Going to replace entire unit with 14" fan.18Fiatsandcounting wrote:the fan blades are hitting either the shroud or the radiator.

Replacing the fan will work. While you are in there take a close look to make sure something else has not moved or dislodged something creating the contact point. Could be a symptom of something else out of place with the car.
