FI Plenum seals

Post by rodo »

Snapped the bolt trying to remove/reset the TPS so now starting over with a different plenum. (It was suggested that I did not want the fuss of trying to drill the bolt out.) Just wondering about various seals. Sure, one for the cold start valve and for the idle adjuster intake screw thingy. Other seals? For example, do either ends of the throttle butterfly have seals, on either end, behind (?) where the spring holder goes and perhaps behind the TPS? Didn't find remains of any bits but forty years....

I've never removed the throttle shaft from the plenum, but my spider workshop manual shows two seals on either end of that shaft. One in the middle of the throttle cable "barrel" location, and one on the opposite end under the TPS. They look like rubber cupped washers of a sort, but the picture isn't that great.

Wow, Bryan, that's amazing. I've never seen them for sale anywhere nor any images/diagrams of them. Hm, I guess the question is: now what? Just try and find something that fits, I guess.

The screws holding the throttle plate into the shaft can be difficult to remove. The back side is pined over to lock them in place. Its not uncommon for the screws threads to strip and the screw just turns and will not back out.

Hm, this is as much as I've found: a throttle shaft seal from this shop:

I guess this is it... Anyone ordered these and installed them?
