Parts Match?

Post by RXTbone »

Working on putting together a motor from parts I have. I find some of the # sequences as confusing as all get out... I'm converting a FI motor to a carb. Do these intake parts match?

Motor: FIAT 132 AC.40/9
Head: 4371507
Intake: Single Plane Fiat 124AC 4197008
Carb: Weber 32/36 DGV

Thank you in advance for the help!

Yes, it's a confusing system, especially since the casting numbers that you have are not always the same as the part numbers...

But, you appear to have the block and head from a 2L fuel injected engine from around 1980 or 1981. However, the intake manifold appears to be from an early 1438 engine, and this has 3 potential issues: 1) the port openings (sizes) are not ideal for the 2L engine so air flow isn't as good as it could be, 2) the openings where the carb mounts are not wide enough for the throttle plates on a larger carb (but these can be expanded with a grinder) and 3) the water coolant jacket openings may not match the head in the right manner. It can work, but some workaround might be required. Better to try and find a single plane intake manifold from an 1800 spider which is a better match to the 2L cylinder head for all of the above issues.

Also, isn't the DGV carb the mirror image orientation of the usual DFxV series? I think the DGV would have the float bowl towards the rear (instead of towards the front) and there are throttle linkage issues with the reverse orientation. It can be made to work, but again, some workarounds are required.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the help! I have determined that the manifold was from a 1438 - wasn't sure the fitment with other series. Looks like I'm off to the Sales section for a trade!
