California Smog Check
Fellow California Spider fanatics: I have a 1980 FI Spider which requires the biennial smog check. There is Collector Car provision in the CA smog law for an abbreviated inspection performed by the referee if the vehicle meets certain criteria. Mainly being 35 years old and has collector car insurance, which mine meets both. The abbreviated test only includes testing tailpipe emissions, fuel cap function and checking for liquid fuel leaks. How would this differ from the normal smog check? Has anyone gone through this process and can offer any insite? Thanks, Tony

Re: California Smog Check
Tony, this would be very helpful if you do learn more about it. I talked to a guy at an Alfa Romeo car show several years ago (in the Bay Area) and he mentioned he had antique plates on his late 1970s Alfa. I thought he said he didn't have to get it smogged, but maybe I heard him wrong.
Anyway, it's worth looking into and I wish I could tell you more.
