Hi Everyone,
I was wondering, and I have tried looking it all up online, if there was a list of parts in the FI version that made up the smogging kit.
I've seen people block up a whole load of pipes or adding fittings to block parts up. This seemed however only on the carbed versions. I'm not too updated on the smogging kit rules.
The Fuel Injection however, from what I can read, came with a catalytic converter ! so what else is there ? Here in the Netherlands we don't have emission regulations for classic cars as they are normally not used daily. However if I can let some power loose by removing any extra bits I would be very keen to try.
My spider arrives 3rd October and I'm keen to get sunk in.
Anyways thanks for reading ( my introduction post wasn't popular I take )
Shaun

Re: DeSmogging the FI
Various places sell a straight pipe to bolt right in place of the CAT converter (4 bolt I think) for your year. The gains from removing the CAT are further recognized if you increase the efficiency of the exhaust with other than stock header and possibly consider a cold air intake to improve air into the combustion chamber. The three of these things will gain you about 15% HP and may improve mileage slightly. It may influence the resale value down the line and of course will increase CO2 emissions. If you are only driving the car a couple thousand miles or kilometers a year the pollution impact is negligible.
Buon giro a tutti! - enjoy the ride!

Don't worry Shaun, we still love you! It's probably just that your introduction post got lost amongst all the others. As for performance gains in an FI car, I'll leave it to the experts to advise on that. I'm mostly a carburetor guy.DutchSpider wrote:Anyways thanks for reading ( my introduction post wasn't popular I take )

Hi Shaun
Welcome to the chat room as well as the world of owning a Fiat Spider.
I purchased an 81 Spider 2000 in 2003 we have driven it around 70,000 miles or close to 113 KM. When I first got it I was looking at options for getting better performance. I ended up keeping it pretty original as far as the drive train goes. I did paint the car, put in new interior with carbon fiber dash panels in place of the wood grain. Car has an Arm rest and mirrors with turn arrows in them, A wind screen from a Miata as well a third brake light on top of the screen. After driving the car a couple years I decided cosmetics, comfort and safety over performance. Maybe if you drive the car for a bit you will be happy with it as is.
Enjoy your new car

I think you're all right. I'll drive it around first and see if the changes are necessary. I was not sure what smog kit came in the FI and if there was also one of those pumps running a pulley and belt.
How on earth did you fit a miata screen !
You guys are so creative and handy ! I have a lot to learn.
