Hi y'all,
I'm in the middle of restoring my 81 FI and preparing the floor for soundproofing. I'm plugging most of the holes with the rubber stops, however in the place where the back seat is supposed to come there are a lot of extra holes. Can anyone shed some light on why this might be? Maybe i'm overlooking something.

Any other tips for soundproofing are always welcome of course

Re: Holes in the back seat?
Maybe someone tried to convert the rear seat to the parcel shelf design of the Pininfarina Azzura spiders of later years, and those holes were the mounting points? If you have the rear seat, I'd just plug those holes with little rubber plugs or the like.

Thanks Bryan! Never thought of that possibility. Definitely going to put the back seat in, as my kids are pushing me to finish the car so they can hop in the back to drive around town.

The spacing of the holes looks like a (very poorly thought out) rollbar might have been installed at one point. Whatever they are, they aren't original so can and should be plugged.

Previous owners create mystery and fun stories to tell. I’m thinking/guessing/imagining a roll bar mounted cleanly but not in a well supported location. As far as laying down the butyl sound deadening material, it’s straight forward and pretty easy. Looks like you’re going about it right so far.

The hole on the left side is for the fuel pump wires. I don't know about the right side.

OK I put my 82 up in the air and the left side hole is not for the fuel pump wires. It looks like the holes where made to simplify help out rubber plug manufacturers, as they both have rubber plugs in them.
