My new to me '79 Spider 2000 arrived with no smog pump... I don't need to retain a working system to comply with regulations in my country, so I'm removing the rest of it.
I've pulled the valve thingy from the valley between the cam chests (by the spark plugs) that taps into the exhaust outlet and plugged that. I've pulled all the vacuum lines off that run between the carb and the head and connect to the warm up valve block bolted to the inlet manifold and discarded all that. Pulled the valve thing that bolts to the inner wing and connects to the front of the inlet manifold, plus it's pipes......... and now I'm left with this -
Is that the EGR valve? What's the best way of dealing with that? take it off and make a blanking plate that bolts in it's place?
Also this -
I assume this pipe goes 'through' the engine and connects to the corresponding port on the inlet manifold.... do I need to strip this off? or will blanking the inlet manifold at the EGR seal it off?
Is there anything better to do with the now redundant carb vacuum pipe spigots than just blank them all off?
Pulling off the 'smog kit' - can I bin this bit?

Yes, that diaphragm thingy on the intake manifold is the EGR valve, and the pipe from under the exhaust manifold goes through the cylinder head and then to this valve. I think blanking off where the valve connects to the intake manifold should be fine.
The valve looks like this: https://autoricambi.us/emission-egr-valve-1979-80/
In case you're interested, the overall function is to bleed exhaust gas back into the intake, which cools the combustion temperatures slightly and reduces the formation of nitrous oxides. A vacuum line to the EGR valve controls this whole operation as there are times when you don't want exhaust gases feeding back into the intake.
As for the other open ports? The best option is to cap them off.

Advice: dump the 28/32 ADHA and dual plane manifold on your '79 (like I did). Go with a single plane manifold and a better carb (mine's a DFEV). Easy swap! You will be amazed at the performance improvement, and how much better the engine runs.
Mine had no smog pump, but had reed valves for EGR. They were toast, irreplaceable, and I blocked them off right away. Learned that the stock intake manifold and carb had to go, over the years.
Now my car starts/runs PERFECTLY!

I'd actually read your thread and how you'd got so much better results from your new carb! Yes, that's part of the future plan... but, I got a lot of work to do before I get there, the first of which is to get my car registered in my home country.
I confess to having done some eBay searching for a new manifold and carb after I read your thread!
I've got all the smog kit off now and all the pipes, bleeds and vacuums plugged - it actually runs pretty good, certainly good enough for moving it around my place while await paperwork and bureaucracy.... Once that is sorted I can crack on with the other jobs that need doing and try and source a new carb
By the way, is the first silencer at the outboard position under the passenger floor actually a catalytic converter?

That is where the cat would be, my 79 came to me w/o the cat, just two mufflers.
I too disabled the emissions equipment, just blanked off the egr port, blanked off the Reed valve ports, disconnected charcoal canister etc. Some say the 28/32 needs the vacuum lines in order to run properly but mine seems fine. I found a single plane kicking around and put that on, runs well! I just have to get my 32/36 DGEV installed.
