My odometer just stopped working before I got too deep I thought I might ask
Where do you think I should start looking for the problem? Any common issues anyone knows ?
Thanks in advance

Re: Odometer stopped working
Does the speedometer work? Do both the overall odometer and the trip odometer not work? If the speedometer works, then it sounds like one of the gears inside the unit has broken or come loose from its mount. If one of the odometers works but the other does not, then it's likely a gear for that odometer is stripped. It both don't work, it's likely the main input drive gear.
I have disassembled several speedometer units and cleaned them up, but it is a little tricky. It also means you have to break the tamper-seal on the back of the unit. Let me know if you want instructions on taking apart the unit.
So, I think your options are to buy a used speedometer, or try to repair yours. If you try to repair yours, and you find a broken part, you would need another unit for parts anyway as individual parts aren't available. Plenty of used complete units, though. The downside of a new (used) unit is that your odometer will no longer be true for your car.

Then, likely the cable is broken.

Re: Odometer stopped working
I belive the later cars had a clip on cable at the speedo end. Could be as simple as the cable has come off. Or a failed cable.

You should be able to reach up behind and see if it's snapped in. If it is you could pull the cable out of the speedo and see if the square drive portion of the cable is broken somewhere inside the sheath.
