Tuning the idle 81 FI
I have recently purchased a new air flow module (AFM) and installed it. However my car previously had been idling at about 2,000 rpms even before the installation. So after install same thing. I did not know that there was an idle screw near the gas pedal cable so instead I adjusted the screw on the AFM. Well this lead to not allowing the flap to move and engage the fuel pump so I went back the other direction on that and tried to get it back to where the factory set it as best as possible. Anyway I eventually adjusted the set screw on the other side of the engine bay near the gas pedal line (as mentioned above). This seemed to be much more effective. I have it when it starts at about 800rpms BUT once it’s warmed up it goes up to 1500rpms. Is there another screw I need to be adjusting for a warm engine? I see another screw but I’m afraid I will mess something up. I can take a picture if it will help.

Re: Tuning the idle 81 FI
My first thoughts are an auxiliary air valve stuck in the open position. But you should really start at the beginning. Why did you replace the airflow meter? Was it new, used, rebuilt? How sure are you that the adjustments you made to it are back to original? There is a FI tune up procedure that includes adjusting the idle stop screw and the air mixture screw on the plenum. There are also test procedures for the various sensors in the system. Mirafiori.com has several FI manuals in their library. If you are not a member it is well worth signing up and it's free for a wealth of resources. You can pm me your email if you wish and I can send you the pdf''s.
