Cowl seal??

Post by neslam »

What type of seal goes between the cowl and the fender to fill/seal the gap?
I have the 3-part flat seal that goes between the front half of the cowl and the engine compartment, but don't know what to use on the sides where it is level with the fender.
Anyone have a pic of what it is supposed to look like?

No, between the cowl and fender at the base of the windshield.
The circled area in this picture, if I did it right...

If I'm picturing what you're describing, there is no seal there. There is a 3-piece seal between the cowl and the front of the engine compartment sheet metal as you mentioned, along with a seal between the windshield and the cowl, but there is no seal between the cowl and front fenders. It's just a gap, and you position the cowl to get the gaps roughly equal on each side.

Ok, thanks, that's exactly where I was referring too.
Seems odd that its just a gap, but ok.
My car is apart and long ago a previous owner filled it with some obviously non-original "sealant".

There is a weld at the base of that gap, where the two body panels are welded together. If that has a leak, water could drip into the footwell, and maybe the sealant was someone's attempt at fixing this?
