1979 Fiat with 132k miles should thee engine be rebuilt

If a Fiat is well cared for when can i expect an engine rebuild to take place??
This one sat in a garage for the last 20 years and seems to run well
what should I do???? What should I be looking for???

I've seen engines that needed a rebuild after 50K miles, and some that didn't need it until over 150K. However, you are getting close to that upper figure, but there are 4 things to look for:
1. Puff of blue smoke when first started: Usually means the valve stem seals need replacing.
2. Blue smoke out the exhaust when driving: Likely means it needs new piston rings.
3. Do a compression test on each cylinder. Less than 120 psi or so = not good. Some people also do a leak-down check.
4. Oil leaks from the engine in general. Common with all older cars, and many require a rebuild.

This assumes the engine runs fine in general and doesn't have any knocking, grinding or clattering sounds.

I decided to plunk down $3500 and I think it is a good buy
The main reason for my decision was that the engine runs very strong
Always some concerns on a new buy only time will tell!!!
