I went back and forth on the look of the luggage rack, but decided no rack looks better.

I'm struggling a little with this as well. I do like the look of the clean trunk. However, I like the look of a classic chrome luggage rack as well. I use the rack with a custom bicycle rack and have had the need to transport larger objects using the rack as well. No wicker baskets but a certain amount of practicality and retro look. I think I'll keep it.

see if this link works. Old pic. Car has modified T bar bumpers now. You get the idea. It is actually much more stable when driving than it looks.

I took my rack off in the first week that I owned it!!
I think the cars lines look so much better without. The trunk and the entire rear part of the car are so nicely designed.
Just my 2 cents!

I think the rack looks better on the earlier cars with full chrome bumpers. I've had one on my car for 24 years. Probably only used it 10 times, but when you need it, you are really glad you have it.

I tore a tire sidewall on a long trip once. It was a 14" and didn't fit in the spare tire well. As the trunk was already full of stuff there was no place to put it. (We had a peewee in a car seat in the back.) If not for the rack I'd of had to abandon a wheel on the side of the road. -Steve

You could have lashed it to the front of the car like hunters do with deer

I found it difficult to clean/ wash/ wax the trunk lid under the rack. Clear coat under the rack (and hood) was pealing and oxidized when I purchased my 1980 in 82. Have repainted since. Kept the rack but now take extra extra effort to maintain area under rack. Anyone know where to get the correct angled feet? Thanks, Greeny

I just bought a '78, and the guy I bought it from also had a '74 parts car for sale that I didn't have space for, I'm going back for that luggage rack... I want it pretty bad, they look great!

When I was a kid, all I wanted was the factory rack. But searched as I might, back in the 1980s, I could never find one in Colorado. It was before the era of the internet, so my only options were the Fiat dealership (couldn't get one) or the junkyards (rarely had Fiats, let alone racks). There were aftermarket racks, but they looked clunky.

Now it's 2021 and I like the look of my car without the rack because it came from the factory without the rack.

But if your car came from the factory with the rack, that might be true to its form. I think the car is beautiful with and without the rack.

Depends on what kind of build you're doing.

I personally love all the options and extras and chrome pieces; luggage rack, ski rack, bumper bars, ect.
