Re: SPIDER COLOUR
Could be, Denise, but it looks like the "Grigio Fumo Met." (Grey Smoke Metallic) to me. Unless the lighting is affecting it.
This color has come up before, with the general consesus being that grey is a misnomer, it's really more of a misty green.
I had a '79 in this color, and it was very pretty. "Adrians" in Australia has a beauty with this color.

Re: SPIDER COLOUR
Ron,
I think you are correct on the color of Zeki's spider. There are about three others there with the same color. Smoke grey metallic. Its hard to tell sometimes when pictures are shot outside and everything reflects in the paint, but I think it is smoke grey metallic

Re: SPIDER COLOUR
Then it should be paint code 899. What you could do is go to a auto paint supplier and have them check their old books. I got the number from my PPG book for 1979 European imported car colors.

Denise, you're not conceding that easily are you? Where's all the good arguments if people don't stick up for thier opinions?
Guess I'll have to go ask my wife why she didn't fold my underwear better.

Re: SPIDER COLOUR
Sorry Ron. Behind this facade is a real pussy cat. I'm not the confrontational type! I clicked on the pic he was talking about and it did have a green tint to it.

Re: SPIDER COLOUR
taking a completely different tack here.
Unless you have a very low milage unrestored spider here, or are dumping 10-15k, or far far more into a restoration, I would not worry about the color. If you like it you like it. If you don't, then paint it a color you like.
A decent respray will cost in the area of 1,800 (if you do almost all of the prep) to 5,000. So if you are buying the car for you. buy one in a color you like, and ignore the originality charts. If you are buying a car to be turned into a museum piece. You are either buying one that is completely original and spectacular, or you are already planning on a bare metal tear down.
If neither of the above applies to you, don't give it to much thought!
The real joy of a Fiat Spider is the fact that you can actually DRIVE it.... not just dust it with a cloth diaper every other Sunday!
Personally, I bought a car in a non-original red... that was surely an Earl Sheib job, $29.95 and worth every penny of overspray. The car was originally an orangey red, that I don't care for (no offense to orangey red fiat lovers the world over.. I just don't like the color, it reminds me of hallways in my 1970's east-coast elementary school.... bleah). So I stripped it down, did ALL the prep, and am getting it sprayed by a pro... in a very dark mettalic gray. If Fiat was still building these today, they would be wise to consider this color in its palate.
It is going to look like a million bucks! or at least 20k.. ok.. more like 8k... lol
but I'm not building it to sell it. I'm building a car for ME!
