Not a bad strategy of course, but you will definitely need a good schematic for that. The fuel pump control runs through both the AFM and the dual relay.

Just suggesting to check the fuel pump is working. Anyway you want to do that

Study the wiring diagrams, and one by one, bypass or short all the relays, switches that can interrupt the 12VDC to the pump.

Also, jump the pump directly from the battery in the trunk to make sure it does run when given power.

update, she's running!! I got a text back from FIC saying it could be the fuel pump switch in the AFM and would call me on Monday to walk me through it. I found an air flow meter electrical and mechanical configuration schematic that Brad posted 14 years ago on another post so I popped the cap and immediately found that #36 and #39 were not making contact once the car started. Bent it over until the fuel pump finally starting kicking on and it runs perfectly. 10 hours of time spent on looking at everything except the AFM meter. I've seen so many posts about how great they are I decided they couldn't have not restored it correctly. On a another note, the ceramic disc seems to already have worn lines on it. I expected that thing to look brand new. The gold colored arm that goes down on that disc had previously been pretty bent up and it looks like they just bent it back instead of replacing it too. I'm happy the car is running now and it does sound better than before but that disc sure doesn't look like a new one to me. Do you think those lines could have already been made on the disc in this short of amount of time? Thanks to everyone that helped me get it going. I can't wait to finish the seat vinyl and get the seats in it now so I can drive!

It is a common fix with the AFM, to address those worn tracks in the thick film resistor layer, to make a bend in the arm so that the contact point rides on a fresh part of the film. This possibly is what has been done. Make sure also that the top of that arm makes a clean connection at its center swivel point, it makes an electrical connection there. Also, the external connector on the side of the housing has arms that extend in, over the board, and only make a pressure connection to the board contact pad. Cleaning those points carefully can help too.

Thanks. I think the AFM is operating pretty good now. My concern is I just paid close to $300 and I thought I was getting a fairly new AFM. That ceramic disc looks used to me but I could be totally wrong. Pretty sure they also just bent the gold wire back in shape that touches the ceramic plate since it looks like it has a lot of bends in it. I guess as long as the car runs good then I'm okay but I thought I was getting a more "new" rebuild of the AFM. They do give a warranty so I'll see how it goes.

Their policy, as they told me (if it is FIC) is to replace the TF resistor ceramic only if it is necessary, and to clean and reuse it if it can be cleaned and refurbished. There are no new ones being made, I think.

That ceramic disc looks better than the one I had in there so they either did a really good job of cleaning it or replaced it with a used one that was better than the one I had. I guess I'll quit complaining as long as the car is running good. And it does sound better than before they rebuilt it.

FI Corp is the only one I have found that will work on the EFI in our cars. They have a good reputation. I currently sent my ECU to them for evaluation and repair if needed.
