I had a thought. The timing belt, on mine, Does not ride centered on the cam wheels. Would it help to leave the head bolts loose or finger tight, Install the belt and move the cylinder head forward or back. Rotate the engine two turns until the belt rides on the center of both cam wheels. Then tourque the head bolts.

As long as the belt is fully riding on all the pulleys (that is, not running past the edge of any pulley), you should be good. Also, with the block-to-head locating dowels in place, there's not much ability to move the head around. If you could, I'd start worrying about head gasket sealing and clearances within the combustion chamber.tima01864 wrote:I had a thought. Those dowels have play to the head, Not much. I had thought of machining Dowels to fit head to block 1 to 1. But wonder why are not from the factory.
