First actual drive

Post by gbsailing »

Well after one and a half years I finally got to do a real drive other than on and off a trailer. Took it to storage for the winter snowed today glad I did it yesterday. Been working on it all summer trying to get it ready be a safe daily driver. (1978 124 Spyder) got it in Calif it had been sitting for 16 years in a shed and need brining back to full running condition, no rust real lucky there.

New timing belt idler and water pump
Removed all the Calif smog system that didn't work
New 4-2-1 exhaust without cat
Brakes needed cleaning up had new lines but 3 stuck pistons
Ball joints rusted tie rods the same so everything there new steering damper new
New clutch fly faced
All new drive line parts
Dash cap (dash cracked real bad) new wood for dash and counsel
New carpet door panels and rear panels
wing window seals
Changed all fluids

Next summer alignment and if I have the time (not working) new seat covers and get ready to paint. Then possibly a new top this one is still not too bad. I do like the way this handles and for a low horse power engine it actually has nice power. I think getting rid of the smog and a better exhaust helped a lot. Can hardly wait till winter is over.

Sounds nice! A carb upgrade will help with power.

Congratulations. How fun.
It will be a long winter of waiting now that you've wetted your appetite. Reading time...
