2.0 block similarities/differences ?

Post by UKM »

Hi ,
Was there much variation in the blocks/cranks/rods between the various 2.0 Fiat/Lancia twin cams ?
Thanks , Matt

I should explain , I purchased a brand new short block listed as for a 2.0 124 CS2 but having now revealed the block numbers it is listed in Wards book as 2.0 132/Argenta as fitted to the Morgan’s I believe . This block I am looking to build up as an alternative engine for an as yet unfinished project currently fitted with an unrun GC dry sump Volumex 1585 .
For this new 2.0 block I also purchased a fully ported/flowed 47/38 reverse Port head , also a set of 45mm ATR throttle bodies , 45mm Webcon manifold , Bosch injectors , Omex 600 with race loom with sensors , trigger wheel , Sytec pump/filter/regulator/swirl tank . If the dry sump can not be switched from the 1585 ( unlikely ) I shall have to have a second sump made up . There are a few billet cams to choose from .
I also purchased a freshly totally rebuilt 2.0 full engine without induction sold as a 130tc but again in Wards listings comes up as a 125tc . The engine was rebored to 84.6 . New water pump , new oil pump , new cam belt , new tensioner , new valve guides , new gaskets and oil seals .. I have a new set of 45mm throttle bodies which could be used on this engine , a set of HC 84.57 pistons which may be suitable and a new Allison’s lightweight flywheel . Also options on some billet cams .
The long neglected project car I am sorry to say is a lightweight road/race Triumph Spitfire and the transmission is via a Quaife ally type 9 box , Tilton 2 pack cerametalic clutch , high torque starter , Subaru/Kazz plated LSD , MGF rear hubs discs calipers , front calipers are Caterham race .
I also have a good looking used 1585 engine and box I am looking to sell on to help pay for this build .
I am not an engine builder so reliant on those with ‘ the knowledge ‘ .
Oh and the reason the project stagnated was a severe lack of space but hopefully this will change soon . Working on the car was not possible but collecting bits for an alternative engine was even though they are now in many boxes in the kitchen/living room . :?
I will sort out putting photos on a host site hopefully this evening so I can then upload them .
I am only to happy to donate for the knowledge I hope to gain .
Thanks , Matt

All 2 liter blocks used in Spiders, 131's and 132 series were 132 based. 132 series engines were also sold for non-automotive applications such as generator sets. Each application had its own quirks. Morgan in particular did not buy his engine directly from the automotive division of Fiat. I'd put whatever casting and stamped serial numbers you have out there to see if someone can confirm the original application of both block and head.

Also ,
Am I right in thinking that the only difference between the 125tc and the 130tc was the upgrade to twin DCOEs on the 130tc giving a 5 HP increase ?

Matt, thanks for sharing the pictures. Looks like an awesome project.

You made me feel better. Looking at your pics put things in perspective for me. For a while I had had some guilt for having spent $$$ on my project.

Since $ does not seem to be an issue, you might want to consider a TotalSeal steel top ring. I saw some Hastings boxes there - not sure what your ring plans were. The Total Seal ring was a custom order for me. Let me know if you want the ordering info. This is a one piece steel ring that looks just like OEM but is steel - a lot stronger.

Who did the big valve head, seat job for you? Did you say 48/38? Massive. Are you opening up the intake manifold as well?

Again, thanks for sharing.

Hi Nut , sorry I missed your reply .
I purchased the head on EBay from a Bulgarian motorsport professional .
I felt it was worth taking a chance on for £650.00 .
I also purchased from him a set of very clean cam carriers .
I am looking at using the ATR throttle bodies with the Omex 600 .
The head is reverse port so two separate exhausts will be required to allow the swapping of the two engines .
The Guy Croft VX engine has sat patiently in the garage for so long it will need a belt change at the least .
The GC site has been very quiet of late and Guy’s price list for parts was absent for some time but is now thankfully back , although the site is still very quiet .
Matt .
