Removing heater?
Removing heater?
How difficult is it to remove the black heater box? I think my heater core is busted, but I don't need a heater anyway. I've already removed the heater controls, now I'd like to delete that ugly black box. What is behind it? Will I need to plug any firewall grommets? Am I insane?

Re: Removing heater?
It's not that difficult Nick. You need to drain your coolant prior to disconnecting the heater core, and remove the entire console to gain access. Unsnap the 4 hooks between the two sections of the heater box :
the thumbnail shows one of the hooks, they are on all 4 corners of the box), and the bottom section will come right off. The heater core just sits on it so it will be hanging by the tubes to the heater valve. Take the heater valve off and the core will then come off. At this point you'll see what gets unbolted to get the top section out.
Aren't you in Goleta? I did a job out there last week.

It would be easier to just connect the hoses together that goes to the heater core. If you do not need a heater anyhow, why go through the trouble taking it all apart?
