Considering replacing front seats with sport seats, Recaro or similar...
any suggestions on where to find reasonably priced units that will fit without modifications?

Re: Sport Seats
I haven't done this, but I do remember reading here, over the years, people complaining that just about every seat they looked at or tried to fit in the car sat too high, so probably good to take a close look at those dimensions.

Re: Sport Seats
Yes indeed look carefully. The prior owner put Garage Pro Racing Seats in mine and they sit so high you have to look over the top of the windshield to see traffic lights change and if you get caught in the rain its a royal pain to get into and out of the car with the top up.
Besides the seat height the width of the backs makes it so its impossible to reach back to get anything behind the seats such as to pull the top up at a stop light if you get caught out in the rain making it so you have to get out of the car to put the top up.
Clearance between the tops of you legs and the steering wheel is also extremely tight due to the thicker seat bottom making it harder to get in and out whether the top is up or down.

Re: Sport Seats
I mounted Corbeau seats. These are hard mounted, without the slide, to keep them as low as possible. As I am the only driver, I don't need them to slide adjust.
They sit just a little higher than factory but offer alot more support with higher seat backs also. The seat bottoms are also wider. The seat back tilt handle just about hits the door sill.
I ordered extra material to complete the interior. My rear seat and side panels match the front seats.

Re: Sport Seats
1969 124 spider. Needs new seats ( not just upholstery). Midwest-Bayless has two complete front seats for $780 lus shipping. They look pretty good but I have nothing to compare them to. I will probably have them re-upholstered to match new dash and console leatherette re-cover. I want to have them done by the manufacturer at the beginning rather than buy them and then send them back to manufacturer. Any suggestions in working with Midwest-Bayless? Jadikb

Re: Sport Seats
I just put these Procar Rally 80-1000 seats in a few weeks ago. They are mounted with a custom rail that retains the original sliders to keep the height as low as possible. I'm 5'11 and 165lbs and although the seats are higher than stock by 1 to 1 1/2 inches, I have no problems with sight issues or getting in or out.
Highly recommend these seat rail adaptors from Moto-Obscura.
