Center Console Replacement

Post by slflynt »

Hello, my center console has a lot of cracks, it really needs to be replaced. Can anyone tell me what's involved in this? For example does the shifter plate have to be removed? Or the 3 way heater switch? This is a 1980 FI manual transmission model. TIA!

You may find that the shifter plate, the steel plate with laminated "wood" covering is reluctant to release from the lower console. The metal posts on its underside that press into plastic bushings become firmly attached after 40 years or so. Don't force the issue. The console can come out with it still in place if the upper console is free to move as the video illustrates. The fan switch can be lifted out of its console socket and unplugged at the back beforehand.
