how to set up timing at 15 deg

Post by grasshopper »

HI all. I have a 1.8 ltr in my Spider. It has higher comp pistons (9.8-1) I think. Running Faza 35/75 cams, dual 40 idf carbs. I set the timing to 10 deg tdc static as indicated on 10 deg marking on my timing cover. I feel the engine is a little under torque. I've read that some people time their engines at 14 deg for better performance. Can someone tell me the procedure involved to do this please ? Do I simply re align notch on crank shaft to next position after the 10 deg mark then re set the distributor to #4 ?

You need a timing light and you just turn the distributor untill the notch on the crank pulley aligned with 15 degrees notch. If you have vaccum on the dist, you unplug it and plug the hose.
