Re: Aftermarket Fuel Injection
Currently working on that install now, biggest pain in the ass is the mounting the 2GC Rochester footprint carb on a Weber footprint manifold. I've got it on using a two piece solution and a bit of filing but there are other fitment issues regarding fuel lines and carb linkages. I've yet to see how the height works out with a filter on. The head is off while I complete some other might-as-wells.geospider wrote: The Holly sniper as well.

All in all it's pretty straightforward, the unit is well thought out. I'm mounting it in a 2L block, 1800 head, single plane 1800 intake manifold, 2L FI 4/2/1 exhaust manifold with O2 sensor port. I'm using the water outlet port off an FI that I've retapped for a 3/8ths temp sensor the system requires. The other major work is running isolated power leads directly from the battery in the trunk to the Sniper under the hood, they require clean power which is pretty easy if the battery is right there, not so much in our cars. I've also replaced the original fuel tank with a fuel injection style bottom feeder, installed a new fuel pump and FI rated hoses and filters. I'm using the original hard lines as they should be adequate even though they're not the recommended size for the 400HP this unit is capable of feeding.
Anyone else thinking about this - don't buy the whole install kit. It contains a fuel return kit you won't need and a bunch of fittings that won't work in our application. You just need the Sniper, a fuel pump and filters, buy hose and fittings as needed, an AN6 banjo fitting and 9/16th bolt for the input, AN6 to 5/16th tubing to the fuel line, 9/16th to AN4 and AN4 to 1/4 barb for the return line.

Larry,
Since you are right around the corner from me; I am in Concord and work in Oakland.
SMOG happens. What will happen with this change?
I run a 32/36 on the single plane, but switch it out to stock for 1 day out of the 2 years.

The car actually "lives" in Calaveras County, don't need to smog it unless I sell it. If my in-laws move I'm screwed...

Much better than any shitty carburetor, dual or single, new or used.

I'll bring my dual point distributors and my SAE bolts, and we'll do a smack-down! Steiny vs. The Bryman!SteinOnkel wrote:Anybody wants to argue with me, I suggest trial by combat

You supply the beer, and we're on! Just gotta get past this Shelter-in-Place stuff....
Meanwhile, I'll go back to twiddling with my ignition points, and my 32 DFEV. And maybe figuring out how to screw these 3/8-16 bolts into my 2L block... Maybe just needs more grease...?
Oh, and Steiny, did you replace those synchro forks to solve your slipping out of 5th gear problem... Yes?

Great. im so glad to hear someone else had the same idea. Im planning on taking it one step further. I got an IMI supercharger from a Mazda sedan that I am machining to mount and pipe in. I will have to turn a new SC pulley for a V belt. Do I have to have the programmable ignition for boosted application.

Re: Aftermarket Fuel Injection
I haven't done anything to the transmission save taking it out. I got a new pilot bearing, that's it. Later this year I think I will just buy a new/rebuilt transmission and call it good. Partswise you're only a few hundred bucks short of getting a reman soooo yeah.18Fiatsandcounting wrote:You supply the beer, and we're on! Just gotta get past this Shelter-in-Place stuff....

Absolutely. And you will need a fuel pressure regulator that's load adjusting. Not sure if the efi you are looking at has that or not.BammBamm wrote:Great. im so glad to hear someone else had the same idea. Im planning on taking it one step further.
