Can the rear view mirror glass be replaced?

Keeping it sharp - paint, wax, detailing, etc.

Can the rear view mirror glass be replaced?

Post by FiatJim »

The rear view mirror has become tarnished at the edges and I suspect that it will only get worse.

Can the mirror glass be replaced? I have a mirror of a part car. But I can't figure out how to get it apart without breaking the plastic.

I replaced my mirror with one from autozone that glues to the windshield.

they come apart easier than than it seems.
If you already have it off the window frame then you have braved the force needed to remove.
the plastic frame pops right off, can't remember if the top or bottom had the little "clips".

You may be able to just clean the mirror and glass parts and put back together.. I just did this and got rid of all of the "fog"
A little RTV and the shaking goes away. there are posts on here about this. Really not hard to do. WOrth a try.

I'm with Geo on this: Carefully disassemble the rearview mirror, find a local glass shop that can cut a new mirror (or do it yourself), put it back together, and you're golden. Put some lubricant on those hinge points before reassembling.
