Check out the beautiful 1970 850 Spider on "Bring a Trailer". Ones this nice don't seem to come up very often.

Sweet! I had a friend who owned one of these, probably right around 1970, and he said it was a ball to drive. I remember him opening the engine "hood" and me thinking, "That small thing can't be the engine...??"

I wanted one of these in between my X1/9's and the '80 Spider I eventually sourced and have now, but I could never find one that was even running at any reasonable price! Great little cars, with a true, fully open air experience!

Yes, and my friend with the 850 was a big guy, and I vaguely remember he could reach over the door and touch the ground while sitting in the driver's seat. Good for pushing errant chickens out of the way as you motor through the countryside, I guess.

I'm still looking for an 850 sedan, which was my dad's first car. He said that he "somehow" fit a bug engine in there with dual carburetors and that "only flying would have been nicer". Then he lowered it and ripped off the drain plug at full tilt :(

Cheers
