Re: New brakes
I know I'm a little late to this discussion but I just ran into this problem last week. I'm doing a, as we used to call it many years ago, a "body off" restoration. I bought Bendix rotors and CTEX pads and found out the inner hat of the rotor would not fit over the rear axle. I found out the machining was not complete but a quick few turns on the lathe fixed that. When mounting the front calibers the same thing happened as has already been discussed. I'm a bit of a purest and wanted the original calibers on the car that were cast with "Fiat" so I rebuilt them. When attempting to put the original caliber over the new pads and rotor, even with the squeeler pads removed, the body of the caliber would not fit over the pads and rotor. My solution was to measure everything out and remove 2 mm of material from one pad using a belt sander. Be careful, use a mask, and keep measuring the pad at the four corners to keep it even. I want as much material on the rotor as possible. The quality of parts from any supplier has diminished over the 50 some years I've been playing. I find it best to work with the suppliers and find work arounds. The work arounds are usually quicker and sometimes better.
Thanks
Bill
