"Ceramic" paint coating

Post by baltobernie »

Have any of you had your modern car's paint rejuvenated/restored by a professional using this process? "As seen on TV" with washing, clay bar, rubbing compound, polishing compound, then a water-activated glaze. Is this "ceramic" stuff better than a good cleaner wax like Meguiar's , or a similar product we've all used?

Short answer - get it done to keep car shiny for a LONG time
Long answer
i have had this done on my last two cars, one 6 months old when i bought it, the other brand new.
Depends on who does the "treatment" as to the success.
I can recommend it, it makes the car easier to clean, and no need to wax afterwards. Need to wash carefully with soft cloths etc to prevent swirl marks, check out the best methods to wash the car on youtube. use a pH neutral soap and prewash wish a foam sprayer etc. The coating is a mix of silicon and titanium oxides that fills in the pores of the paint. The result is the surface of the paint is much smoother as the oxides bond strongly to the paint, including the clear coats. generally there is a warranty to the coating. research the maker of the product as well as the person doing the application.

i had just bought a 2018 alfa romeo 4c spider
i had the whole car covered with 3m bra clear. it saves the car from rock chips and scratches. ceramic coat will not do that
i would go with the 3m

Yes, I had mine from https://ceramicprotection.com.au/, ceramic is great. Absolutely it's worth it, for most cars. Paint sealant does a much better job of protecting the paint against UV rays, sap, rain, and other debris than normal wax, but – not as good as ceramic coatings.

Hey Jim - that looks like the 2015 Launch edition with the front bumper cut outs.

Was it an option on later cars ? I have a 2015 4C coupe (not launch edition) and didn't do the wrap (and I drive the car regularly) - I have a ton of stone chips so too late now I guess.

it is a 2018 chuck
you can identify if the car has launch mode by the vents up at the front fender. if your car does not have that then it is not launch mode
you should have got it wrapped to save the front
i love the car

I do paint correction and ceramic coatings as a side hustle. Provided whoever does it properly corrects/polishes the paint prior to applying the ceramic, you'll have stunning results.
