Keeping it sharp - paint, wax, detailing, etc.

Drain Holes in Floor Pans?

Post by SteinOnkel »

Hey guys,

so I'm just about ready to put the new carpet in.

I noticed this car has quite a few triangular holes in the floor boards.

Are these drain holes? Should they be left open? Or should I seal them up?

Thanks
Steiny

Yes, drain holes. Good idea to leave them open.

Hmm some of them were under the sound-insulating tar mats. Weird.

Maybe they flooded the cars with primer in the factory?

In any case, there were what as a scientist I would call a "shitload" of holes (not from rust ;) ) in the floorboards. Never seen so many in a car.

My '79 is the same,...multiple, triangular holes (the metal stamped 'open" on two long sides of a triangle) factory-punched into the floorpan. All of them face the rear, for drainage/evaporation of moisture in the car.
I'll sure not mess with moisture-control in a convertible,...I'll just try to keep it clean and dry, as much as possible.

Yes, those are the ones. My s/o was a little...overzealous... with the seam sealer. I will be scraping it out to free up the triangles.
