Getting your money's worth

Post by SteinOnkel »

So I decided to rebuild the driveshaft. The guibo looked just fine from the outside. No cracks, tears, nothing.

And then I unbolted it and it promptly fell apart into three pieces  Guess it was holding on out of habit more than anything else.

Well, that's how you get your money's worth out of a guibo. Replace it just before it fails!

That's a good one Steiny, but are you sure you couldn't squeeze another 10K miles or so out of that bad boy? Super glue does wonders, I hear. :P

I'll tell you what, Bryan. I'll fish it out of the bin for you and you can run it some more :D

Side note: I'm really starting to hate the Haynes manual. Nothing is as easy as they say it is. To remove the center driveshaft bearing, I spent all of Saturday morning trying to beat the thing into submission. One bent pickle fork later I decided to take it to a driveshaft shop. I don't see how it can be done without a hydraulic press - which is something I expect a repair manual to state.

Pro Tip: Remove the metal clip thing around the new guibo before you go 70mph on the freeway ;) Otherwise it might get a little loud for a minute.
