Intake Manifold Leak

Post by unplugged »

I am swapping out my FI with Dual Webbers.

I can't get the intake manifold to seal well enough to stop coolant from leaking out by #4. Manifold is brand new or at least refurbished. I took a straight edge to it and there does appear to a slight space at that area. Maybe a 64th. Does anyone use sealant on this gasket or possibly double up the gaskets. Alternative is to find a machine shop to grind it flat. Would be a minor PITA but maybe that is better that my other thoughts above.

Any other ideas?

Yes I had this problem and fixed it with a fresh intake manifold gasket and a light even brush of permatex aviation form-a-gasket on both sides of the gasket and on the intake manifold. I only used the sealant on the far ends of the gasket where it connects to the water jacket. Also make sure the head and manifold mating surfaces are oil free or the sealant wont stick.

I also use Permatex on both sides of the gasket,...around the water port, and a thin application around each of the intake ports (insurance).
I usually have a tube of Permatex "Ultra Black" available in my garage, since it is also oil resistant.
