I have a pretty complete record of my car.It was bought in Greensboro N.C., and pretty much stayed in the same area until I bought it(4th owner). The cool part was I had papers from a lawyer re. divorce settlement! It seems both wanted the Fiat, the husband got it ,but had to pay her $3800 to keep it.He kept it for 15 years ,and put almost no miles on it.

Re: My Fiat Spider was once in 'THE' Whitehouse
Mine actually came from California. The original owner was stationed there but lived in NC. He brought the car home to Mt. Airy and sold it to his best friend when he decided to stay in the Army. I bought the car from this man in 1995.
My 71 was originally a VA car and must have stayed in the East it's entire life. I bought it from a fella in NY. He put the car on a trailer and met me at the Newark, NJ airport. We pulled the car off the trailer and I drove it 550 miles home.
My 82 X19 was originally bought in Asheville, NC and has spent it's entire hard life in the mountains of NC. I bought it last December and have been fighting with it ever since.

I've always been a little jealous of you that have a history of your car. How cool. The oldest record of my car I have is from July of '92. It was bought in Northern California (Redwood City) at a car lot for $5300. In 2002 a lady who now lives in Huntington Beach (Southern California) bought it for her teenage son who, when he took it over to show her ex-husband (the boys Dad), the Dad said "That looks like a girlie car". The kid took it home and refused to drive it. It sat in the garage for five years when her fiance asked her to sell it to make room for his car. I bought it off Ebay after a trip down there to check it out, and was very suprised to win the auction because it had been kept up exeptionally well.

Is North Carlolina a better state to buy a older car as far as for salt on highways or the ocean salt problems than South Carolina ?
Or is there any difference at all ? LD

Three stories ,,whow ! How was the 550 miles home ? No worries and every thing went okay? I drove mine home in bumper to bumper traffic and the car wasn't used to my big feet .. I roared the engine a few times getting my shoe caught on the clutch and console .. I have a pair of fiat shoes now that I try and make sure I got them on when driving it.. LOL ..LDmdrburchette wrote:Mine actually came from California. The original owner was stationed there but lived in NC. He brought the car home to Mt. I got lucky as to the paper work that came with my car ,,and it did influence me before going to look at it off Craigs List. I have to say that the foot peddles were made more for girls than guys ,,except for my aunt Dorthy . LOLrlux4 wrote:I've always been a little jealous of you that have a history of your car. How cool. But you do have a story and I like the story you have and I bet others do too. I would be willing to bet that some day when the kid gets older ,,he will look back and kick himself for listening to his dad ,,this one time anyway .. LD

I am glad to hear I am not the only one to have trouble with the pedals on the Fiat! Some of the guys that work for me call me ''sasquatch'' for my oversized boots.I bought some Momo pedals thinking they might help ,but I still hit the gas and brake together occasionally.I got some Piloti driving shoes ,which are really narrow, and I always try to wear them when I drive.During FFO I didnt have them when we took the long drive after the show,so I made the whole drive barefoot!

I just use the tips of my shoes. In fact, it would probably be beneficial to me if I wore shoes a couple sizes larger.
I think NC and SC would be the same as far as the condition of a Spider. Both are humid, even when fighting a drought.

My car was bought new on the 5th July 1985 from Autohaus Niederberger in Stuttgart, West Germany (as it was then) by Herr Stuber. And that's who I bought it from 5 months ago. WHO'S A LUCKY BOY, THEN
Re: My Fiat Spider was once in 'THE' Whitehouse
Thanks Spiddy ,,and you "are" a lucky one . I looked up Spiddy because I was curious and found that there is a Gecko forum with a name of mention like yours.. Is that where you got it from ?Spiddy wrote:My car was bought new on the 5th July 1985 from Autohaus Niederberger in Stuttgart, West Germany (as it was then) by Herr Stuber. I want you to know that you made my day as I never had anyone reply to me from Spain before. Did this Autohaus Niederbeger sell Peugeot cars also ? If you need a steering wheel from the left side for a change over ,,Just wanted you to know we got a bunch of them over here . LOL LD
Re: My Fiat Spider was once in 'THE' Whitehouse
I would like to know where [besides Italy] my 77' Spider came from. I found it on a used car lot in Victorville California in 1985. It has been with me every since. It was a 49 state [non-California] car, so I know it was from out of the area. They built these for a while until they all became the same, I think when they brought out the 2000 engine. I figure one of the airmen from the airbase that used to be here probably brought it to California. ...J.D.
