PVC Valve Maintenance

Looking for some help on removing and cleaning of the Pvc valve , I have a 1984 pinifarina spider , in my shop manual it tells me for late model engine no maintenance is required . I wanted to remove it and clean it out due to a post I read on this forum that if you have valve cover or cam box gasket leaks a possiable cause is to much back pressure due to a clogged PVC valve .So the help I am looking for is will I be wasting my money and time removing the valve , I bought this car new in 84 so the valve has never been removed .

The post may of been referencing the Cyclonic trap, Located under the intake manifold.

That would properly be Positive Crankcase Ventilation,...you'll find more under that search title.

Thanks for getting back to me , Yes the cyclonic trap, my shop manual really has limited information on how to remove it . Is it just the one bolt ontop of the housing along with the short and long hose that will allow the removal .

I had cleaned mine when the vacuum booster was off for replacement. One bolt and a gasket, I replaced both hoses, You may not need to. There is a flame arrestor in the long hose, missing. The short hose just fell apart, new hose and reused one of the clamps.

This "cyclonic trap" is secured to the engine block with one long bolt through the center, and a gasket around the lower lip on the bottom. The short hose, which is angled at 90 degrees, is connected between it and the engine block. The longer hose connects between this trap and the air filter housing.

Removing the cyclonic trap involves removing the two hoses, and the center bolt. Easy to do on some Fiat engines, but not so easy on others (depending on the model year).

Thanks Guys for shearing your knowledge, I will order the two hoses and gasket and clean it out in the near future when I receive the parts .
