Blew up my '78

Post by Butlerdidit607 »

I went from a running car to a restoration by being an idiot. Removed gas lines, forgot to unplug the battery next thing I know I'm on fire (I'm fine but my jacket is melted on the ground). I'll start my inventory on what I'll need tomorrow but my question is. What are the chances my engine is salvageable? Fire went up the crank shaft.

Depends on how long it burned before you put it out. If there are no melted hoses/belts, aluminum or copper items and the seals are intact then you should be fine.

My Chevy 500 powered bus had the intake, valve covers and oil pan melt off in a fire and that was a total loss but that was more than just a scorched jacket.
