Re: Restoration photos
Wow! How did you restore your VIN plate? Mine looks terrible and I figured there was nothing I could do to save it.

Re: Restoration photos
Your photo of the rear hub answers a question I have. The later year rear ends were hubcentric?

Re: Restoration photos
Hub centric?? Not sure what that refers to, please clarify.
Restoring the VIN plate was not too difficult. Found a photo of a blank one (I'll see if I still have it on the PC), resized it with a photo editor (Paint), touched up the lettering, then printed it on clear decal paper. After drying, sprayed on a light coat of clear acrylic.
Same technique I used to restore a pair of 60's Vespa speedos.

Re: Restoration photos
I have a 1970 rear end on my 1983, Hub centric means the rims locate on the hub, lug centric means the rims locate with the tapered bolts to center the wheel on the axle. So the wheels run true to the axle. The 1970 axle does not have a hub protruding past the rotor and spacer plate to locate the wheel central. Looking at your photo I can see that yours has the hub to locate the wheel central. Another good reason to change out the axle to one that belongs on the car. Nice work there, (had to try and explain)

Re: Restoration photos
Then you give up the more easily serviced front load third member and those benefits of the old style axle which some hold is more robust than the newer one. I would still be inclined to have the adapter plate modified on the old style axle with a centering hub and have the best of both worlds.tima01864 wrote:I have a 1970 rear end on my 1983, Hub centric means the rims locate on the hub, lug centric means the rims locate with the tapered bolts to center the wheel on the axle.
