Exhaust Thoughts

Post by TX82FIAT »

Looking for some feedback. Exhaust system on 82' uses Vicks header into 2.25 pipe into 10" resonator where the CAT would normally be and then a chambered free flow muffler similar to a 4 X 9 Flowmaster. It sounds great but is just too loud. Neighbors are a little upset when I fire the car up early on a Saturday morning, my wife was on the fifth floor of an office building and heard me drive by on the street.

Given the amount of room and clearance I am thinking of taking the little resonator out and moving a small free flow magnafow muffler in that space under the passenger seat. Effectively having two different types of exhaust (one sound cancelling and one sound deadening) Don't think there will be a drone. Anyone running two muffler similar to this?

Thoughts?

Buy a Mazda RX-7, take off the muffler, and drive it around your neighborhood for a while. Your neighbors will welcome the return of your Spider :P

I have a borla freeflow muffler and smaller magnaflow in place of the resonator. Its got drone around 2K, seems like I can tune it out with the right length of pipe behind the borla but have not taken the time to really nail it down.

Update: Put a 13 inch cambered rumble exhaust muffler where the CAT normally is replacing a small 9 inch resonator and then into a magnaflow muffler. No droning at all. Car has a nice deep sound. Still loud, but not nearly as loud as it was. The install took a couple hours to raise car up and down, measure twice and cut once and bolt everything together. Added benefit of getting the exhaust off the emergency brake cable.

I put the "test pipe" in, and it is deeper but not too loud, and seems to have more power, noticeable when climbing hills.
